Originally launched as the Redesigning Hospital Care Program in 2008, the Improvement and Innovation Program has led to a range of tangible improvements in patient care and organisational efficiency.

Staff within participating health services are supported to identify, implement, sustain and spread successful improvement and innovation work.

The program is managed through the Better Care Victoria Board, supported by Safer Care Victoria and has a steering committee, with members from Victorian health services, BCV Board and committees, SCV and the Department of Health and Human Services.

It has been developed to align initiatives to statewide improvement priorities and focuses on system-level improvement, rather than single service improvement.

Who is involved?

In 2019–20, we’ve provided funding to 32 participating health services to support them to employ a full-time Improvement and Innovation Advisor.
