In June 2019, VAHI released a new Victorian Health Incident Management System Minimum Dataset (VHIMS MDS) for the collection of clinical, occupational health and safety (OH&S) incidents, near misses and hazards.

The new VHIMS MDS comprises the data items that Victorian public health services will be required to collect and submit to VAHI to support statewide reporting by 1 July 2021.

VAHI developed the minimum dataset through consultation with Victorian public health services, Safer Care Victoria (SCV) and the Department of Health and Human Services (the Department).

The VHIMS MDS does not yet include the collection of feedback information, this is scheduled to be added at a later date.

Once the VHIMS MDS is adopted by all Victorian public health services, VAHI will use the data collected to deliver regular statewide incident reports that identify patterns and trends. This data will also inform SCV and the Department in their oversight and monitoring roles. SCV and the Department will work closely with Victorian public health services to consider learnings and areas for improvement.
