Data collection for the Victorian Healthcare Experience Survey (VHES) program recommences in September (for patients discharged from 1 July 2021 onwards), using the new Adult Inpatient, Adult Emergency and Maternity surveys.

Based on sector feedback, VAHI have made several changes to improve the program for health services and consumers, focussing on making patient experience data timelier and more actionable.

The surveys have been re-designed in consultation with Victorian public health services and consumers to be shorter, to provide more usable insights for health services and to focus on the aspects of care most important to patients.

The VHES program transitioned to digital data collection in July 2021, meaning most surveys will now be completed by the patient online. Responses will be uploaded daily into an improved interim results portal following survey submission, allowing health services to view important patient feedback in near-real time.

This will assist services to be more responsive to changing priorities and implement local improvement initiatives. Health services will also be able to access finalised results via customisable dashboards, including more granular feedback at ward level, further enabling services to respond to changing priorities and needs. Final quarter one results will be released in December 2021.

These reforms are underpinned by best practice evidence and extensive sector engagement conducted as part of the new agreement and survey re-design process. VAHI will continue to engage with health services and consumers to ensure the program drives actionable insights and supports a patient-centred approach to healthcare delivery.
