Maternity and newborn

Part of our role at Safer Care Victoria is to work with health services to strengthen their clinical governance and performance monitoring, to ultimately improve healthcare quality and patient safety.

Our maternity and newborn services work in a complex environment. That’s why we’ve collated all key governance information into one handy user guide – helping services navigate their unique obligations and access helpful resources as they deliver great care for Victorian mothers and babies.

The guide provides useful and practical information for anyone working with mothers and babies – including doctors and midwives, risk managers and health service executives. It will better equip our maternity and newborn services to meet the needs of mothers and babies, strengthen quality and safety processes, and build capability.

You can access the guide here.

The guide features links to information and resources across six areas, including clinical governance, leadership and culture, partnering with women and their families, workforce, risk management and clinical practice.

The online guide will be updated regularly – so please save the link to your desktop to make sure you access the latest information.

If you have any feedback on the guide, please get in touch:
