Clinical/acute care
Critical Care

Safer Care Victoria’s Critical Care Clinical Network is developing tools to improve and refine recognition and response systems across the state. We are looking for health services, clinicians and consumers to join the next phase of this project.

In Victoria, a rapid response call occurs around every 15 minutes, placing a big demand on these services.

Recognition and response systems aim to ensure that all patients who deteriorate in acute healthcare facilities receive timely and appropriate treatment.

We’ve recently refined governance and engagement tools that will assist health services to identify areas for local improvement in their recognition and response systems.

The next phase of this project will support and coach health services to develop and test change ideas to improve their systems.

Health service project

We’re inviting health services who are looking to improve their recognition and response system to become project sites.

Each health service will need to assemble a project team that includes all relevant stakeholders.

Project subcommittee

We’re also looking for individual members to join our subcommittee and help steer the project.

In particular we’re looking for:

  • Rapid response/critical care clinicians from:
    • nursing
    • medicine
  • health service executive staff or members of clinical governance committees
  • consumers with experience of critical care or acute deterioration (in a critical care unit or required a rapid response (MET) call) as a patient or carer.

Why apply?

  • Contribute to statewide quality and safety improvement in critical care
  • Make improvements in your recognition and response system, or support health services to improve
  • Learn about using the Institute for Health Improvement Model for Improvement methodology

Recognition and response (MET) system self-assessment tool

If you’re not planning on getting involved in the project but would like to self-assess your health services recognition and response (MET) system, complete the self-assessment.
