The Emergency Care Clinical Network is looking for clinicians and consumers to help progress priority projects to improve outcomes for those in emergency care.

Managing behaviours of concern | expert working group

Behaviours of concern, or acute behavioural disturbances, are characterised by agitated and/or aggressive behaviour of an individual who is subsequently at risk of causing harm to themselves or other patients, relatives/visitors or staff. There is growing concern in emergency care services regarding the management of these patients and the significant safety risks they can pose.

Standardised guidelines | expert working group

The development of standardised guidelines for emergency care is a key priority for the network. Implementing consistent processes, such as standardising clinical guidelines, is central to achieving the goal of providing high-quality, safe care for every patient, every time.

Managing presentations of the older person | expert working group

Older people use comparably more emergency care services than other age groups. Attendance rates to emergency care settings are for older people are also increasing. This is in part due to the demographic shift Australia is undergoing with a rapidly growing ageing population. Older people also have complex medical problems with multiple comorbidities and psychosocial needs that require care coordination and multidisciplinary team assessment prior to discharge.
