The launch of the VAHI Portal was fast tracked in March to support the public health and broader health system response to COVID-19. The Portal’s COVID-19 dashboard continues to play an important role in VAHI’s contribution to Victoria’s pandemic response as a one-stop-shop for data, including:

  • Daily summary of confirmed cases, both new and active, including indicators of disease severity such as the number of cases currently requiring intensive care unit (ICU) and ventilated care
  • Critical care capacity measures, including ICU occupancy and available ventilators
  • Healthcare workforce measures, including new COVID-19 cases among healthcare workers and associated impacts
  • Emergency department presentations.

In addition to key data, the Portal also houses COVID-19 reports to support detailed analysis of many topics, including temporal and geospatial distribution of cases in Victoria and at a small-area level, indicators of disease severity, demographic profile of cases, and trends in tests.

Other COVID-19 publications available on the Portal include weekly and sentinel ICU surveillance reports, and weekly updates of relevant literature reviews.

Next priorities of the VAHI Portal project include the introduction of new reporting products to allow for greater understanding of the broader impacts of COVID-19 on Victorians and the health sector, including unplanned readmissions to any hospital, in-hospital mortality and hospital-acquired complications. Additionally, the Portal will soon launch interactive quality and safety measures for health services with the capability to compare performance across health services, and trend analysis and the ability to drill down from hospital-level outcomes to disaggregated data at the patient level.
